EL2 Bulk Round – Federal Government

In June 2024, CBR Recruitment was engaged by a high-profile Federal government agency to manage an EL2 Bulk Round to fill several vacancies within the Division and to create a merit pool. CBR Recruitment collaborated with the Selection Panel to develop a shortlisting methodology and then used a two-stage approach to shortlist candidates, assessing them against essential and desirable position requirements and EL2 work-level standards. CBR Recruitment then conducted the interview scheduling and advised the Panel on the interview process, including the development of interview questions. CBR Recruitment provided scribing services during the interviews, undertook reference reports, developed a high-quality selection report for signoff by the Panel, and then provided structured, constructive feedback to unsuccessful candidates. The selection process was completed within a very short timeframe, which facilitated the Department being able to fill the positions promptly.

Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment, and Water

In November 2022, CBR Recruitment was engaged by the Department of Climate Change Energy, the Environment, and Water (DCCEEW) under “The People Panel, Phase 1” to support a bulk EL1 recruitment process where in excess of 80 applications had been received. CBR Recruitment conducted the initial shortlisting against the selection criteria, undertook the interview scheduling, coordinated a written exercise which shortlisted candidates completed, provided a venue for the interviews, conducted reference reports, finalised the Selection Report and uploaded the candidate outcomes into the Department’s recruitment system. Due to the short turnaround required to complete the process, CBR Recruitment managed the process from its corporate headquarters in the Canberra CBD and assigned a team of HR specialists to support the recruitment process, which was  finalised in record time, over the Christmas shutdown period, and enabled offers to be made to suitable applicants within 6 weeks of the position closing.

Specialist Leadership/Management Role – Government Setting

In June 2023, CBR Recruitment was engaged to recruit an Operations Manager to run a high-security government facility. This complex, high-level security cleared position required a mix of leadership and operational skills, involving the direct management of a range of specialist service providers. CBR Recruitment developed a bespoke national advertising campaign, along with the selection criteria for the role, which attracted a wide variety of highly qualified candidates. Each applicant was carefully assessed against the selection criteria before being contacted for an initial competency-based interview to evaluate their suitability and overall job fit. CBR Recruitment then crafted comprehensive interview questions to thoroughly assess the candidates against the selection criteria. Following the completion of formal interviews, extensive referencing and background checks were completed and an in-depth onboarding process was supported by CBR Recruitment. As a result, the organisation was able to successfully manage through a period of significant change while supporting their clients and stakeholders.

Stella Bella Little Stars Foundation

In October 2022 CBR Recruitment had the privilege of working with high profile Canberra charity, The Stella Bella Little Stars Foundation to recruit a Marketing Officer. This was a new position within the team, which had a focus on building awareness and the profile of the foundation. As part of the recruitment process, CBR Recruitment initially conducted position benchmarking, provided advice on not-for-profit salary packaging benefits, developed an advertising campaign, and undertook competency-based interviews where candidates were initially assessed on their overall suitability for the role, based on technical skills, personal values, and fit. CBR Recruitment then facilitated formal panel interviews where the foundation’s CEO and one of the company’s recruitment specialists interviewed shortlisted candidates against the key competencies of the role. Following the interviews CBR Recruitment conducted position specific reference reports and then managed the onboarding process of the preferred candidate.

Permanent Recruitment – Professional Services

In February 2024, CBR Recruitment was approached by a boutique accounting firm to recruit an Accountant specialising in accounting and tax compliance services. To support this recruitment process, CBR Recruitment crafted a specialised job ad and conducted a comprehensive recruitment campaign to attract and discover competitive talent. Prior to formal interviews, we undertook competency-based interviews, evaluating candidates’ technical skills, personal values, and overall job fit. CBR Recruitment developed interview questions and facilitated formal panel interviews where the company’s Director and Practice Manager, as well as CBR Recruitment’s Director, interviewed the shortlisted candidates, assessing them against the key competencies of the role. Following these interviews, the client decided to appoint two of the candidates to the positions, rather than one. CBR Recruitment conducted reference reports on these candidates and, following positive reviews, managed the onboarding process for both candidates. Following this, CBR Recruitment conducted DiSC behavioural profiling to provide the client with further insight into the candidates’ work styles and fit within the team.

Australian National University – PARSA

In April of 2021, CBR Recruitment was approached by the ANU Postgraduate and Research Students’ Association (PARSA) to recruit a number of key roles concurrently due to an organisational restructure. The roles included a General Manager, a Student Assistance Adviser, a Communications and Events Director, a Finance Administrator and a Business Support Assistant. CBR Recruitment conducted an in-depth talent sourcing campaign, coordinated initial and formal interviews, undertook reference reports and background checks, negotiated the offers and managed the onboarding process for the preferred candidates, who were initially engaged on fixed term contracts. CBR Recruitment also managed the payroll and employment obligations of each of the candidates through the duration of their contracts and based on their performance they were all subsequently appointed to PARSA on a permanent basis.  Due to the success of this recruitment process PARSA was able to manage a period of significant organisational change, while also engaging a number of outstanding staff to support the Board and its members.

Bulk APS5/6 and EL1 Selection Process

In May 2024, CBR Recruitment supported a large Federal government agency with the management of an APS5/6 and EL1 Bulk Recruitment Process, interviewing over 100 candidates. Over the course of two weeks, CBR Recruitment hosted multiple Selection Panels concurrently within the company’s corporate headquarters; facilitating a mix of face-to-face and virtual panel interviews and providing hospitality, videoconferencing services and ensuring an excellent candidate experience. CBR Recruitment undertook the interview scheduling, coordinating interview questions for shortlisted candidates, and conducting reference reports for candidates rated as potentially suitable at interview. Due to the scale of the processes, multiple scribes were engaged to ensure timely completion, and the overarching process was managed internally by the company’s specialist Technical Writer / Copywriter to ensure consistency across the Selection Reports. CBR Recruitment finalized the process within a very short timeframe, which enabled the department to make timely offers to suitable candidates.

Management Role within a University Setting

In March 2023, due to the retirement of a long-term staff member, a high-profile residential college sought CBR Recruitment’s help to find an experienced Manager of Residential Services to manage and coordinate operations and activities for the residents of the College. CBR Recruitment developed a comprehensive talent-sourcing campaign, crafting a specific job advertisement to encourage high-level applicants and coordinated initial interviews to further shortlist candidates. A schedule was developed in line with the College’s timeline, and role-specific interview questions were developed. CBR Recruitment ran panel interviews with senior College personnel making up the interview panel. Following formal interviews, reference checks were conducted to ensure team fit. Burgmann College made a formal offer to an interstate candidate, and CBR Recruitment managed the offer and international relocation. The candidate was subsequently appointed on a permanent basis and the position was filled within a short timeframe.

Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and Arts

In March 2021 CBR Recruitment was approached by the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications to support an APS4/5/6 Bulk Recruitment Process with over 50 candidates to be interviewed.  As the selection panels were being run concurrently CBR Recruitment provided a team of high calibre Scribes / HR Specialists to scribe during the interviews, provide procedural advice, undertake reference reports and write the final selection reports ready for signoff by the Delegate.  As part of delivering the services CBR Recruitment project managed the process to ensure consistency across the various panels and to achieve a very quick turn around in the selection process.

In November 2020 CBR Recruitment was approached by a high-profile private sector business which was experiencing significant growth.  The company provides specialist technical services and required a candidate with a niche technical skillset, combined with high level client service skills to support the growth of the business.  CBR Recruitment ran a national advertising campaign using a variety of advertising media, ran initial competency-based video interviews, coordinated travel arrangements for interstate candidates to attend face-to-face panel interviews, undertook reference reports on the preferred candidates, negotiated the offer with the candidate selected for the position and also coordinated their relocation arrangements.

In December 2020 CBR Recruitment was approached by a small business owner as several key people within the business had resigned simultaneously, having a significant on the business and its ability to deliver services under existing contracts.  CBR Recruitment ran an advertising campaign over the Christmas period, and identified candidates through its contacts, network and database, resulting in high calibre candidates being appointed to the roles early in 2021, allowing the business to deliver on its contracts and work towards its broader strategic goals.
